James Emmerson, Joseph Graham, Katie Morton
| paintings, installation | space 1,2,3

James Emmerson’s sculptures consist of familiar objects that he combines, manipulates, or repeats. His use of these materials allude to stories, asking the viewer to be free with their interpretations and in turn deciphering a rhyme or reason. By doing this he forces us to reconsider the status that these objects have in our lives. Suddenly the objects that served us so well stand up and declare themselves as real.

James Emmerson graduated from Chelsea College of Art and since then has appeared in numerous shows including Another like the other (Century Gallery, Nov 02); 14x14 (Century Gallery, Dec 02); rsvp (Robert Sandelson Gallery, Jan 03); Bootleg (Spitalfield Market, London, July 03).

Joseph Graham’s work attempts to remind or invoke the memory of a place. His landscapes are ones we have all been to before, some in the fairy tales of our dreams and others filtered through from the plethora of experience. Grahams fluid use of materials responds to his acute awareness of not only what he sees around him but to what we might see another day.

Joseph Graham graduated from Chelsea College of Art and since then has appeared in numerous shows including Another like the other (Century Gallery, Nov 02); 14x14 (Century Gallery, Dec 02); Bootleg (Spitalfield Market, London, July 03); Under 500 art fair (London, Sep 03).

Katie Morton’s sensitively gouged surfaces depict “things that float on walls that are not paintings”. Her work uncomfortably grounds the viewer in the reality of the quotidian. Morton’s continuing references to the reproduced image never quite allow her work to relax into being a single piece, instead it conjures the possibility of a print whilst never quite shaking of its status as an original.

Katie Morton graduated from Chelsea College of Art and has since continued her art practice appearing in a number of shows and artists projects including Another like the other (Century Gallery, Nov 02); 14x 14 (Century Gallery, Dec 02); Bootleg (Spitalfield Market, London, July 03). Her work also appears in the recently published artist book/comic ANYWAY by TOMCAT.
