My work is concerned with unseen structures and energy that exist within and around the human body. The structures I am using are in the form of hormones, the human egg cell, and the letters of the DNA sequence found within us. These evoke memories of patterns and artefacts we live with in our everyday world for example, the structure of the growth hormone somatotropin resembles a piece of beaded embroidery. The human egg cell reminds me of a planet in the universe or even our own world. Making connections between these shared patterns is of interest to me. These works are metaphorical statements that consider a way of seeing ourselves as a part of a dynamic inseparable whole with the universe. |
